First: What is a BIOME?

“A biome is a community of plants and animals living together in a certain kind of climate” (Earth Observatory).

This is an image of tundra, just one example of a biome. Using the library resources listed below, you will learn more about Ms. Gabriel's BIOMES research unit. Let's get started!

Scientists have classified regions of the world into different biomes. To research your chosen biome you’ll want to search for information from the following resources: websites, encyclopedias, nonfiction books, and magazine or journal articles.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED, LET'S TALK ABOUT RESOURCES:

What’s important to know about your resources?

  • You want to choose your information from authoritative, credible resources by people who are qualified to write about biomes. (For example, Sponge Bob is not a credible source on biomes, but NASA is.)

  • After choosing your source, you need to choose the most important information: characteristics, animals and plants, temperature, location. . .

  • Organize your information using these sub-topics: characteristics, animals, plants, etc.

  • Cite your text and image sources! Make a bibliography by using the Citing Sources page on the Noble Media Center webpage Noble Middle School
